Today was lots of fun. Here is what we did today. Wonderful to have our principal, Mrs Ruane join us on percussion today.

Musical Families

We began by looking at the four musical families.  We had a closer look at a clarinet and a trumpet. This year we add wind instruments to strings in our instrumental class . We learned how to make our first note B, how to separate notes by tonguing and what the note looks like on the stave.  Can you make up your own sentence and play it to note B

1 Once there were three little pigs .  (Garry ,   solo pause   watch for signal  two beats  (pizz on G  2Danny solo    Pause)   cue two counts D  pause and Arnie solo  pause   ) A

3Time came for them to leave home and make their own home.   They were so sad to  be leaving home they played the KBlues  before they left  First finger riff

4The first little pig Garry found a nice spot on the Lissycasey Road   and began building  his house of straw  pizz ascending  wait for   12 counts  GGGG DDDD AAAA EEEE  (Add row by row    Watch for cut off )

5When he finished he sat down and admired his new house .  Rock and Roll**  

6But look who is this coming up to Gary’s door. It’s a wicked wolf semitone theme

7  Then there were three knocks on the door    Cue ¾ (Knock Knock Knock )

‘Who’s there’ .   Mr wolf  

Little pig Let me come in ………’Not by the hair on my chinny  chin  chin’

8 So the wolf huffed  follow leader  (tremolo on G  he puffed (tremolo on D and he blew the house down    (down arpeggio   EADG together    plus bass pizz G D)

9 The second little pig gathered some wood , got out his hammer and nails and began building his house of timber    (Kilfenora Ceili Dancer     Arco assigned a string each row GGGGGGGG DDDDDDDD AAAAAAAA EEEEEEEE

10 Very soon the house was ready and the little pig sat down admire his work  Rock and roll but 

11who is this coming up to his front door  semitone theme  

12( Knock knock knock)  Guess who ! 

13 Guess who ? ( Wolf Theme ) Little pig let me come in      Not by……..

14  ( So he huffed    G  tremolo   and puffed  D tremolo   

15and blew the house of stix in    arpeggio descending off and bass pizz).

16 The last pig took his time . He decided to bulid his house of bricks . When he had got all his supplies he  slowly  began to build his house of bricks

18 And at last he sat down to look at his lovely house  Rock and roll  but whats this !

19Guess who is rowing across the lake  semitone theme  .

20 The little pig ran Into the house with him and     he shut the door  slap on wood .   (

21The water was choppy and the wolf’s boat rolled about in the water rock and Roll

 22It began to rain Pizz EADG rpeat  but eventually the soggy wolf arrived at the little pigs door Knock knock knock

. Little pig little pig let ,me come in  Not   by hair ………….

23 So he huffed tremolo  G

24 He puffed  tremolo  D  

25And he huffed    ####### G again

26He puffed      #######   D gradually slow down  but he couldn’t blow the house down

27 he looked for another way in   First finger gliss up  on Dhe climbed up the chimney 

28 But quick as a flash  he little put a match to the fire   34   Up bow retake

29 The flames  grew higher  Gliss on D A E

30  The wolfs cries grew louder    Bow behind bridge Tremelo on E  Watch for cut off  Bass Pizz on A E

Down into the pot Gliss down and Splash  Up bow 

That was the end of the big bad wolf and the little pigs had a party before going back to work to rebuild their houses

Farewell Cello Performance

Today we bid adieu to Ms Miller

We marked the occasion with an in house performance by 3/4  of three of our ensemble pieces.

We began with Drunken Sailor using our first finger riff.  Next we played a new piece , Daisy , Daisy with Cian and Jordan taking the melody

Finally we played Shetland Song , repeating the first finger riff.

Seachtain na Gaeilge: Remembering Riverdance

Is é Seachtain na Gaeilge.  Bhi go leor mar gheall ar ceol damhsa ar an chláir inniu.  Tá suim sa ceol Gaelach ar fud an domhain. Riverdance , a theatre show based on Irish traditional dance has been touring the world  for 20 years and has been seen and loved by millions all over the world. The show grew from a a six minute interval act in an international song competition. Dublin was hosting the competition that year.  Here is what Mrs Long  had to say to the class about those golden TV moments  ' I remember watching the Eurovision when I was just a little girl and I got goosebumps looking at Riverdance. I remember it so well'  You can see for yourself what made Mrs Long and myself so excited Here is interval act from the 1994  in the clip below. The best bit I think is when the two solo dancers are joined by the full company of dancers about 4 and 1/2 minutes in . The dancers feet in hard dancing shoes made a great percussion sound
